SLED 10 has a nifty program called iFolder. iFolder is all about file sharing – making, sharing, and backing up files easier. Emplify has some debs up. Does not work in Feisty. It probably needs some MOTU guru to work on packaging this properly.
Folder is a simple and secure storage solution that can increase your productivity by enabling you to back up, access and manage your personal files-from anywhere, at any time. Once you have installed iFolder, you simply save your files locally-as you have always done-and iFolder automatically updates the files on a network server and delivers them to the other machines you use.

Thanks that looks really interesting. It’s funny, I used SLED a while back yet didn’t notice this feature.

iFolder is basically really great. Using it with SLED / OpenSuSE is really easy.
You have a backup, users can access their data via a browser if they are not in the company and if two employers meet outside, they can easily share some data.
But if you are not using Novell products you’ll run quickly into trouble. Getting iFolder to work on Dapper without not working deb’s is a real PIA – no when I tried it I had no packages from Empilfy – and getting it to work on Sarge / Etch is even a bigger problem.
Windows and OSX are really straight. I didn’t see problems there.
The biggest problem seems to be that there are to less users so noone cares about packages.
I switched to Feisty and I think I’ll build the packages if it is possible with not that much trouble.

I have used iFolder for years and love it but have hit the big blank wall trying to get it to work with Ubuntu. I am using the latest release and am a very raw newb to both linux and Ubuntu. How do I get iFolder to work?

iFolder Rocks and so does Novell. Novell should take over the world, they have a great product compaired to you know who? They have a crappy AD product and seem to rule the world for no apprent reason….I have always liked iFolder and the direction Novell has been going with Linux……thanks for the post.
